A Weekly Inventory Intelligence Report
Political advertising continues to build as campaigns and outside groups increase spending ahead of November. This week, Kansas and Mississippi offer two examples of Senate markets where outside spending is adding new pressure to the advertising landscape.
Kansas saw approximately $5.81 million in U.S. Senate advertising from August 10 through September 13, with outside groups accounting for more than 60% of that total. In Mississippi, outside groups have also been active, with millions in independent expenditures reported in the Senate race.

Kansas: Outside groups are driving Senate ad activity
Political advertising in Kansas is beginning to build as the general election enters its final stretch. From August 10 through September 13, approximately $5.81 million was spent on advertising in the U.S. Senate race.
Outside groups accounted for approximately $3.62 million, or 62.3%, of that spending. Democratic candidate spending totaled roughly $1.69 million, while Republican candidate spending was approximately $500,000 during the same period.
The figures show how outside organizations can quickly add advertising volume to a market, creating another source of competition for inventory as campaigns move deeper into the fall.
Mississippi: Outside spending is adding pressure
Mississippi is also seeing significant outside activity around its U.S. Senate race. From August 10 through September 13, approximately $1.41 million was spent on Senate advertising in the state.
Outside groups accounted for approximately $1.26 million, or 89.3%, of that spending, according to AdImpact data analyzed by the Wesleyan Media Project. Candidate spending accounted for a much smaller share during the same period.
AB PAC has been one of the outside groups active in the race. FEC-based reporting shows approximately $1.78 million in independent expenditures opposing incumbent Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith through September 8.
That activity illustrates how outside groups can quickly become a significant part of the advertising mix as campaigns move closer to November.
