Welcome to Insights – TargetSmart’s tipsheet to provide regular updates on the latest voter registration, early vote, and voter turnout trends.
Here are today’s key takeaways:
More than 16 million Americans have requested a mail ballot for the 2020 general election (this doesn’t include the all-mail states which pushes the total to over 65M).
Among these requests, Democrats have a modeled advantage of 15%, leading in most states.
Compared to the 2016 mail ballots returned, the 2020 mail ballot requests are more Democratic in every single battleground state. Notably, the Democrats’ margin among vote by mail requests, when compared to the 2016 mail votes cast, has increased by 51.3% in NC and 41.4% in PA.
In Pennsylvania, Biden holds a tremendous advantage (82 to 14 percent) among those voters who have already submitted a request to the Pennsylvania Secretary of State to vote-by-mail. Registered Democrats have built up an advantage of 835,578 mail ballot requests over Republicans. Donald Trump carried the state by 44,292 votes.
